They brought horses to the ranch to break them to drive or work on the ranch, then resold them. The horses would be shipped overseas for the rehabilitation of Czechoslovakia and ewYugoslavia. For three years, they trailed horses he bought or traded for to the ranch and from the ranch to the government inspection sites at Blunt, Faulkton and Miller.
One particular time, they trailed a herd of horses to the Miller inspection site and Art always said he wished they had turned some saddle horses loose with the herd, just to make it an even 1, As could be expected, not all the horses Art bought and traded for were up to par, some were flat out bucking horses, so Art and Mary started putting on rodeos. When he heard of horses that had been bucking cowboys off, Art would buy them and bring them home for his own crew to try.
If the horses kept bucking his cowboys off, the horses were put in the bucking horse string. Art and Mary eventually built a rodeo arena at the ranch. Paperback , pages. More Details Other Editions 4. Friend Reviews. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up.

This book interested me because I love horses and my friend recommended this book to me. This book covers a brief story of the Wilson sisters childhood and their many horses they have owned and show jumped. This also covers the Wilson first time seeing the wild Kaimanawa horses and training them.
This book will contain many adventures that you will want to read about. I recommend this book for any one how likes horses. Oct 08, Kate Lattey rated it it was amazing. From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put this book down. Knowing the Wilsons and having followed their journey with their wild Kaimanawa ponies on Facebook, some of the stories and many of the photos were familiar, but that didn't make the book any less enthralling to read.
Their early struggles and humble beginnings were fascinating, and the images of the girls riding scruffy ponies in gumboots will seem a far cry from many who know them today as highly successful competition riders. Throughout the story there are two clear lessons to take away - the first is the power of perseverance and courage, often against impossible odds, and how much you can achieve if you follow your dreams, regardless of how far-fetched they seem; and the second is the importance of making sure that your horses are happy and enjoying their life in your company.
This is one thing that so many riders and trainers seem to overlook, and even in years of riding it was Vicki who first emphasised to me, above all else, how important it is that your horse is happy. This is a true, unembellished story of three sisters' love for horses and their determination to get the most out of what life has to offer. Kelly wrote it beautifully and I was captivated from start to finish. I'll be recommending this book to everyone, whether they love horses or not! Sep 27, Danielle rated it really liked it. This book review is on the one and only… Vicki Wilson and her sisters!
Vicki Wilson is a talented horse rider, who trains and tames kaimanawas, and show jumps. This book is called For the Love of Horses, and all in all, I would give it a 4 out of 5. This book is a biography about all three sisters, but I am focusing on Vicki.
As I said before, this book is an autobiography, based on the sisters childhood, This book review is on the one and only… Vicki Wilson and her sisters! As I said before, this book is an autobiography, based on the sisters childhood, and explaining and talking the readers through one of the musters they did. It has interesting metaphors and onomatopoeia all through the book. The genre of this book is an interesting biography, with facts at the end of the book.
This book is set in a little farm tucked away in the North Island, with a few acres of land. The family couldn't afford paddock fencing, so they used fallen logs instead.

As the sisters got older, they travelled around the country, having adventures along the way, for example, riding into musters. Some events in this book are the musters, travelling and swimming in the lakes in the middle of winter. In the musters dust flies everywhere, and horse hooves fly dangerously, sometimes catching on an arm, or leg.

Imagine sitting in a hot stuffy car, with rain and sleet beating on the windows. Then you jump into a freezing lake, with a small layer of ice on the top. That is what the sisters did with no fear of cold at all! Crazy, right? The book carries on to tell us about Vicki and her sisters competing in shows.
